700r4 leaking speedo cable

Jul 01, 2018 · The cartridge is definitely leaking into the cable as there was fluid internally at the connection. The o-ring held back the leak. I tried to monkey around with that c-clip to get it off. I can kind of see there are a couple notches on the shaft as if the c-clip would turn and come off allowing the speedo gear to come apart. Valve body, TV cable & speedo are 6mm x 1.0 Trans mount & tail housing holes are 10mm x 1.5 American (US) threads are "not close" like some people think. Use the correct nuts & bolts! When you buy a tranz from a rebuilder or wrecking yard ask for all the needed bolts.

Will fit years from 1987 through 1992. The Speedometer Cable Outer Housing has Transmission Fluid on it for about 8-10 inches, then it is completely dry. Could this leak be from the smaller O-Ring that is inside the assembly? I was very hesitant to replace the 2 O-Rings, because I know the plastic housing has a tendacy to crack, and this part, for a 1974, is impossible to find.

I changed the clutch in my 83 fj60, got it all done drove it down the block and had transmission fluid leak out of the speedo cable housing. I must of disturbed the 29 year old seals so i had to replace them. They are a inside and a outside seal. Not really hard to do at all just take a punch and punch out the center seal and replace the o ring. my truck is leaking transmission fluid where the speedometer cable goes in I already replaced both seals also a shop but in another seal to have two but it still leaks. it leaks quite a bit. has anyone else had this problem Thanks :rant:
